As collegiate sports become more competitive, methods for enhancing athletic performance have advanced. One such area that continues to push the envelope in the sphere of innovation is developing novel strategies for testing and assessing athletes. With thanks to advancements in technological capabilities, the time between testing and assessment, profiling athletes, and adjusting training programs develop key characteristics of athletic performance has been reduced significantly.

The Basics of Athletic Performance

In a nutshell, there a common characteristics of athletic performance irrespective of sport. Generally, athletes who possess most or all of these characteristics typically perform better than those who do not. These characteristics include, but are not limited to:

-Athlete health, well-being, and readiness to train

-Optimal body composition

-Flexibility and movement capacity

-Muscular strength

-Muscular power

-Sprinting speed

-Change of direction speed and agility

-Cardiorespiratory fitness
