The Jayhawk Performance program was established in 2023 under the careful guidance of Dr. Quincy R. Johnson. One of the program’s goals was the gradual evolution towards serving not only athletes but teams. However, good things take time, the right people, and the development of systems to support the mission. This story outlines some of our successes.

Jayhawk Performance, an extension of the Well-Fit Center at the University of Kansas, is excited to announce a partnership with Jambars FC (Lawrence, KS) to provide physical fitness testing, strength and conditioning programming, and education opportunities related to long-term athlete development. Jambars FC is dedicated to providing a positive soccer experience for players and families, built on the core values of family, school, and soccer, with teams ranging from U9 to U19. Programming by Jayhawk Performance will focus on fun, form, and function and will be led by Dr. Quincy R. Johnson, currently an Assistant Professor within the Department of Health, Sport and Exercise Sciences, and is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist with Distinction who has worked at all levels of sport. During the winter months (or off-season), athletes will train for one hour one day per week, and each session will include a dynamic warmup, as well as strength, power, and speed development exercises.

Dr. Quincy Johnson discusses the Jayhawk Performance partnership with Jambars FC.

Dr. Johnson says, “We are excited to offer such a unique program to area youth, coaches, and sporting programs. In fact, there are few universities across the world who are working closely with local sporting organizations to develop the elite athletes of tomorrow. Jambars FC’s vision, mission, and culture is aligned with preparing athletes for high performance, so it has naturally been a perfect fit for Jayhawk Performance. The road to premier starts here!”

He adds, “This partnership allows the players to be the best they can be, elevate their games, to be able to play at the speed the game requires… It will help the players get closer to their dreams and goals.”
