University of Kansas Upward Bound and GEAR-UP now includes programming from Jayhawk Performance

Dr. Quincy Johnson discusses the Jayhawk Performance Partnership with the KU Center for Educational Opportunity Programs.
Jayhawk Performance, an extension of the Well-Fit Center for Youth Wellness and Fitness at the University of Kansas, is excited to partner with the University of Kansas Center for Educational Opportunity Programs Upward Bound and GEAR-UP. They will be offering two innovative programs that connect STEM education with physical activity for youth populations. As part of this partnership, they will provide physical fitness activities, strength and conditioning programming, and education related to STEM, focusing on sports medicine, strength and conditioning, and sports science.

In the first program, they are collaborating with Upward Bound, which serves high school-aged students. The program is titled “Pathways to Success: From Health to High Performance.” One aspect of the program will involve discussing pathways to success and opportunities in STEM, particularly in exercise sciences. The other part will emphasize teaching how to use some of the technology and how to exercise and train.

The second program collaborates with GEAR-UP KCK and GEAR-UP KCMO. It is similar to the Pathways to Success program but is designed for middle school students.
The Center for Educational Opportunity programs provide students and families with academic, financial, social, and career supports by partnering with school districts and communities. Click on the link below for more information on the CEOP programs.
