
The University of Kansas Department of Health, Sport, and Exercise Sciences was well represented at the recent National Strength and Conditioning Association National Conference that was held in Baltimore, Maryland July 10–13.
Researchers associated with the Jayhawk Athletic Performance Laboratory, the Exercise and Human Performance Laboratory, and the Neuromechanics Laboratory delivered lectures, podium presentations, and poster presentations.
Along with receiving the NSCA Terry J. Housh Young Investigator award Dr. Dimitrije Cabarkapa, Associate Director of the Jayhawk Athletic Performance Laboratory, also had a podium presentation on the “Vertical Jump Performance of Elite 3X3 basketball players.”
Dr. Quincy Johnson, Assistant Director of the Jayhawk Athletic Performance Laboratory, delivered a podium presentation on “Quantification of In-Season External Training Loads Relative to Competitive Load in Collegiate American Football.” He also had poster presentation on “Physiological Characteristics of American Football Athletes.”
Dr. Damjana Cabarkapa, who recently earned her Doctoral Degree while working with the Jayhawk Athletic Performance Laboratory, delivered a podium presentation on the “Impact of Learning Effect on Vertical Jump Performance.” She also had a Poster presentation on “Position-Specific Differences in Countermovement Vertical Jump Performance in Female National Tem Volleyball Players“.
Yang Yang, Doctoral Student and Teaching Assistant with the Department of Health, Sport and Exercise Sciences and Jayhawk Athletic Performance Laboratory, delivered a podium presentation on “American Football Muscular Strength Difference between Starter vs Non-Starter Using IMPT.” Yang also had a poster presentation on “Muscular Power Characteristics of the Countermovement Vertical Jump in Collegiate American Football Athletes — Starters vs Non-Starters.”
Dr. Nicolas “Nico” Philipp, who recently earned his Doctoral Degree while working with the Jayhawk Athletic Performance Laboratory, delivered a podium presentation on “Stretch-Shortening Cycle Fatigue Response in Collegiate Basketball Players.”
Drake Eserhaut, Graduate Research Assistant with the Jayhawk Athletic Performance Laboratory, delivered a podium presentation on “Biomarker and Cardiovascular Responses to BFR+RE in Trained Men.” He also had a poster presentation on “Skeletal Muscle Oxygen Saturation Kinetics During Graded Exercise Testing in Female DI Collegiate Rowers.”
Minh Nguyen, Doctoral Student with the Jayhawk Performance Laboratory, delivered a podium presentation on “Position-Specific Conditioning Impact on Soccer Performance.”
Dr. Christopher “C.J.” Cleary, who recently earned his Doctoral Degree while working with the Exercise and Human Performance Laboratory, shared the results of his Doctoral Dissertation on “Muscle Characteristics Between Individuals with and without a previous anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction.”
Dr. Trent Herda, Director of the Neuromechanics Laboratory and Well-Fit, delivered two presentations, one on “Strength Training in children” and one on the “Influence of Strength Training on the Motor Unit”. He also attended and moderated a presentation at the International Society of Electrophysiology and Kinesiology Congress held in Japan.
Doctoral Students, with the Jayhawk Athletic Performance Laboratory, Joseph DeLeo and Angeleau Scott also had poster presentations.
