The Lawrence Public Schools elementary physical education teachers recently held a professional development day tapping into the services of the Well-Fit Center for Youth Wellness and Fitness at the University of Kansas.

One of the challenges for the elementary teachers is maximizing the short amount of time they have to work with students and developing programing that is beneficial for all students.

Dr. Trent Herda, Director of the Well-Fit Center for Youth Wellness and Fitness and Dr. Quincy Johnson, Assistant Director for Jayhawk Athletic Performance Laboratory and Program Coordinator for Jayhawk Performance, discussed the services and programs that are offered thru the Center. Well-Fit provides online educational content and in-person programming to teach youth wellness, exercise, and sport-related skills. Those programs and content can be used in a class setting or as an extension of what is being done at the schools.

One of the goals for the Well-Fit Center is to develop a relationship with Lawrence Public Schools that leads to improving the wellness and fitness of the students.
