Case Study: High School Powerlifting

Hey y’all, I hope you’re doing well! This case study includes training approaches for two of my female high school powerlifters for the past season (2022-23). Personally, I’ve competed in powerlifting off and on since 2008. During that time, I’ve competed in the 198lb.-231lb. weight classes and have won state and national titles while setting multiple state records across several organizations. Enough about me.

This year I had the privilege of working with a former state champion and first-year lifter. Although there are the obvious differences, there were several similarities in their psychological and physiological status. Essentially, both athletes were internally motivated and had frames built for strength sports (e.g., short stature and lean yet muscular builds).
